AOC2026IconThe Australian Orienteering Championships held over Easter and the days following Easter were a great success. It's success can be attributed to our fantastic, hard working members of the Tasmanian Orienteering community. Many hours of work go into making a carnival happen. There was a large and hardworking committee that coordinated the carnival. I thank all of those who filled those key roles, attending meetings, working in the field and over the keyboard.

This year our carnival was more complex than usual because the national championships and the Australian Three Days were rolled into one. It was an experiment from an Orienteering Australia perspective and I think that we proved it can be done.

I received many compliments about the carnival, the organisation, the variety of terrains used, the courses and the awards. Many mainland orienteers took the chance to stay on and enjoy a holiday in Tasmania and supported the Hobart Shorts and Tasmanian Championships weekend.

Many people attended the national carnival for the first time. I hope that it was a positive experience for you.

There are many people to thank for bring such a carnival together and in the coming months we will have an opportunity to do that by way of a social function. No matter how big or small your contribution was to the carnival, Orienteering Tasmania is extremely thankful. Please keep your eye out for details.

Many thanks

Christine Brown
