2024 National Orienteering League races were conducted this weekend in and around Hobart as part of the Hobart Orienteering Festival.
The Saturday saw a sprint distance double header with the morning race on a new map encompassing the three catholic school campuses of Guildford Young College, St Marys college and St Virgils College Junior School. It turned out to be a tough sprint distance race as the three schools fall down quite a steep hillside. In the afternoon the venue was the Sandy Bay campus of the University of Tasmania. The courses were largely downhill with tricky route choices through the university buildings and in the surrounding bush areas
The Sunday round saw a Middle Distance race on the Lovely Banks map about an hour from Hobart. This was a tough race with steep sandstone cliff lines requiring detailed navigation interspersed with fast running across the flatter sections.
The Saturday sprint distance races were selection trials for the Australian team to contest the World Championships in Edinburgh Scotland. The sprint distance races and the middle distance race on Sunday were selection trials for the Junior World Championships which to be held in Plzen, Czech Republic.
Results for both the NOL round and the associated public races can be found on Eventor
