Learn to Orienteer is Orienteering Australia’s beginner participation program, developed to teach the fundamental skills to those wanting to learn how to orienteer. You will be guided through a sequence of activities to develop your skills and confidence to enjoy our orienteering events.
The first program consists of three coaching sessions beginning at 9:00am, immediately before these local events:
o July 6 (Waverley Park) - Completed
o August 3 (Geilston Gully)
o September 7 (Tolosa Park)
At each session we will give you the skills to enable you to successfully complete and enjoy the following event – and future bush events. These include:
o Using a compass to navigate
o Interpreting the map symbols
o Reading contours
o Basic strategies
You do not need any special gear, we will lend you compasses and timing chips.
The fee for the program includes all three tuition sessions, entry to the events and reviews of your efforts immediately after each event.
