Mike has been involved with orienteering mapping for around 45 years, while also working professionally as a cartographer. He is a highly regarded mapper who has produced high quality competition maps in Tasmania, mainland Australia and overseas.

In a document recently added to OT's Operation Manual Mike covers issues including:

  • Who is the map being produced for?
  • Generalisation and legibility
  • Basemap revolution due to Lidar
  • Best practice for mapping ground shape
  • Sprint Maps
  • School Maps

This document is recommended reading for anyone interested in orienteering mapping as well as course setters and vetters.
