Coningham - Southern Local #5 - July 27

This is the 5th event in the Southern Local Series. The assembly area is at the Coningham Beach so if you are brave enough, bring your bathers for a dip!

The finish is a bit different in that it is on Kate Lucas’nature strip. You will see the trailer there on the way past. It is about 500 walk back to the beach fro there back to the beach. Public toilets are at the assembly area.

Where is the Assembly Area?

The assembly area is at Coningham Beach carpark. Head south on the Southern Outlet towards Kingston. Bypass Kingston and head towards Snug, follow the Bruny Island Ferry signs. On exiting the southern end of Snug turn left into Old Station Rd, just past the 70k sign. Follow Old Station Road along the water line then head up the hill away from the water. Take the first turn left into Coningham Rd following it all the way to the beach.

European Youth Orienteering Championships 2025

The European Youth Orienteering Championships 2025 are being held from 17 – 20 July 2025 in Brno, Czechia. Two Tasmanian orienteers, Euan Best from Launceston and Liana Stubbs from Hobart are team members with both being selected as the Team Captains.

Learn to Orienteer - Upcoming Coaching Sessions

Learn to Orienteer is Orienteering Australia’s beginner participation program, developed to teach the fundamental skills to those wanting to learn how to orienteer. You will be guided through a sequence of activities to develop your skills and confidence to enjoy our orienteering events.

The first program consists of three coaching sessions beginning at 9:00am, immediately before these local events:

o             July 6 (Waverley Park) - Completed

o             August 3 (Geilston Gully)

o             September 7 (Tolosa Park)

At each session we will give you the skills to enable you to successfully complete and enjoy the following event – and future bush events. These include:

o             Using a compass to navigate

o             Interpreting the map symbols

o             Reading contours

o             Basic strategies

You do not need any special gear, we will lend you compasses and timing chips.

The fee for the program includes all three tuition sessions, entry to the events and reviews of your efforts immediately after each event.

  • Adults $48
  • Students and concession card holders $24
  • Family $72

(school students must be accompanied by an adult, who must also participate)

Roche's Rumble Metrogaine

Rogaining Tasmania returns to the Tangara Trails for a 4-hour metrogaine on foot or by bike on Sunday, 24th of August. Starting from Lauderdale, explore laid-back seaside towns, bushland, and coastal trails. Perhaps you'll be tempted to take a chilly winter dip at one of the glorious beaches?
