On the weekend of the 2-4th of September, 18 enthusiastic juniors attended the Spring training camp in St Helens. During five training sessions (with 115 control sites) the juniors practised their skills, including relocation, contour interpretation, mass starts and slopestyle navigation (big hills). The camp culminated in a fast and furious camp championships held on Rajah’s Rock under blue skies with happy smiles.
Somewhat exhausted, but elated coach Jon McComb said, ’This group of kids is amazing – what they lack in experience they make up for with enthusiasm and effort. We’re going to have a great time at the Schools Championships in Victoria.’
A huge thank you to all the camp volunteers: Sussan, Matt, Anthony, Ali, Cathy, Jo, and Will as well as Wayne and Helena Griggs who did an amazing job taping all of the control sites at Golden Fleece for the first day.
