JoyceJuly2020Orienteers will be saddened to learn that former orienteer Joyce Jones died last Tuesday September 6th, at the age of 99 years and 3 months.

Joyce started orienteering in the late seventies and was a very regular participant for many years. The last event she attended was the East Coast 3-day in 2016. During her orienteering career Joyce won her age class many times, including at the Australian Championships and at the Australian 3-days Carnival. Former HAVOC and WROC members will recall attending many club meetings at her home in Lindisfarne.

Apart from orienteering, Joyce had many and varied interests. She worked as a volunteer for Eastern Shore Meals on Wheels for more than 50 years, retiring at age 95. In 2015 she was awarded Senior Citizen of the Year in Clarence.

Joyce's funeral will be held at St Aidens Church, Lindisfarne, on Thursday 15th September at 2 pm.
