Southern Local #5 - Knocklofty - June 14

This is the fifth Southern Local event for 2026. More information and pre-entry on Eventor.

The event uses the Knocklofty map, but with start and finish at the lesser used northern end of the map at Mount Stuart.

Four courses are available – Long, Medium, Short, Novice.

The assembly area is near the big roundabout at the top of Mount Stuart Road, with parking in nearby streets. Please don’t attempt to drive up to the lookout to park as it will create congestion on that road. From the roundabout on Mount Stuart Road, continue up towards the Mount Stuart Lookout. From there, there is a further 500m uphill walk to the start. The download trailer will be on the road up to the lookout.

The Hobart Winter MapRun Series is a new, 4‑event series running this June — with courses open all week, so you can participate whenever it suits. Or join the optional 5pm group starts to enjoy a more social experience (and try some night orienteering with others).

This series introduces a scatter format, so you choose which controls to visit and the order you take them — creating your own adventure each time. Events use the free MapRun app, so all you need is your phone or GPS watch with the app installed. Printed maps are also available if you prefer a more traditional feel.

Run or walk, go solo or with family and friends — do one event or all four. Check your results online and compare with others at the end of each week.

Entry is just $5 per device per event, with all proceeds supporting local athletes Liana and Ella to represent Australia at JWOC in Sweden.

A New Drinks Policy?

Our intrepid organisers of the Lovely Banks OST (aka Butler/Dowling) have determined a new drinks policy for OST series - where possible chilled drinks should endeavour to be supplied.

At Lovely Banks the policy was trialed at control 73 with some success (see photo).

Feedback varied from “I didn’t see it” (seriously, is this person an orienteer’), “I had a little”, to “I wish i’d finished the can”, and it is noted on livelox that some runners seemed to fade a bit later in the course - a lack of refreshments ?
