Course Planning Workshop - Sat May 30th

Dog legs, bingo controls, dead running  - no thanks!

What makes a great course? Can a good course planner set a great course on any terrain? Learn how to design a course to test all orienteering skills, and keep all competitors happy.

Our highly experienced Technical Director Christine Brown will be running a course planning workshop on Saturday May 30 in Hobart. All are welcome, especially beginners.

The workshop will run from 9:00am to 3:30pm at (probably) Kingston Library. There is no charge for the workshop and a light lunch will be provided.

OST 4 - Lovely Banks - Sun May 31

This is the fifth event in the 2026 OST Series and doubles as a schools team selection event.

More information and pre-entry is available on Eventor.

There are 8 courses available, and if you are nominating for schools selection you must enter the appropriate course, otherwise you are free to choose any course. 

Its a long distance event in complex sandstone terrain with some moderate-to-very steep sections. The terrain is a mix of open farmland and dry forest with some impressive high-sided gorges featuring huge sandstone cliffs and boulders on the slopes.

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

Come one, come all to the King’s Birthday III Days – the Quest for the King’s Crown.

By Royal Decree of Esk Valley Orienteering Club, let it be known throughout the realm that a grand tournament shall take place!

Make haste to the City of Launceston on the 6th-8th of June, where a challenge to arms of much grandeur awaits.  Witness feats of strength, enjoy the company of noble friends and a feast and tourney worthy of a king.

The festivities run from 12:30 on Saturday with the eminent Queechy Quest and conclude on Monday with his Lordship’s Crowning Glory Spectacular.  Betwixt these illustrious outings we will journey to Hagley whilst the moon rises high for the King’s Knight, partake of the Round Table at Inveresk (OST #6) and contend a Spirited Score of worthy note.

Come prepared for a weekend of unparalleled revelry, bountiful food, and joyous merriment.

Other News

Australian Orienteering Championships – The Final Fling - Sat May 30

The AOC committee and Orienteering Tasmania would like to celebrate all the volunteers who helped make AOC 2026 a success.

A special function will be held at the Clifton Beach Surf Lifesaving Club on Saturday May 30, 6:30-9:30pm.

Anyone who helped over the carnival weekend is welcome to attend. It doesn’t matter how big or small your contribution was, you’re welcome. This is a free function with dinner included. Locally made curries will be on offer along with a couple of drink vouchers.

Registration is open on Eventor. There’s no fee but you will be able to choose your curry.

Missing Sportident Units

Following the Australian Orienteering Carnival, BSF 9 SI Units 131-150 (one box) have disappeared.

We know they are not in either the AL or EV storage sheds. They must be lurking somewhere.
