01Custom-2178Dates have been finalised for the Carnival That Never Was. Orienteering Series Tasmania events will feature on two weekends and include a new area. On Saturday 26 September in the afternoon there will be a fun warm up event on Golden Fleece organised by Jeff Dunn and Sally Wayte. On Sunday September 27 Warwick Moore and Roger Harlow are plotting courses on the north western part of the Golden Fleece map with an extension into a previously unmapped area. Recent fuel reduction burns have opened up a new area for orienteering.

A midweek training camp is still on offer to all orienteers and there is talk of a 3 hour MapRun using part of the 2019 Australian Rogaining Championships area. Stay tuned.

The Tasmanian Middle Distance Championships will feature on October 3. Course planner Mike Dowling is planning some gnarly courses on Littlechild Creek map for this year’s championships. The following day, veteran orienteer John Brock will plan a long distance event on a separate part of Littlechild Creek. Littlechild Creek was first used for a World Cup race in 1988. Thirty years later it still provides an amazing technical challenge.

Don’t forget our Australian Championship partners: Kellraine, Big 4 and Panorama when booking accommodation. Book soon to avoid disappointment.

If you would like to assist with the carnival in any way please don’t hesitate to contact Chris Brown
