Results from Oceania Carnival in NZ

Report From Oceania Orienteering Carnival, New Zealand North Island, 4-13 January 2013.

38 Tasmanians crossed to New Zealand in early January for the Oceania Orienteering Championships held at a range of venues across the southern half of the north island.
The competition consisted of 7 individual events and a relay. Three of the events were designated Oceania Sprint, Middle and Long distance Championships. The overall results were based on each competitor's best 6 of 7 results. 

Best overall A class results were:

  • Bert Elson – 1st, Mens 60
  • Paul Pacque – 2nd , Mens 55
  • Ashley Nankervis – 3rd , Mens 18
  • Christine Marshall – 3rd , Womens 50

The competition also included the Australia /New Zealand Schools challenge and the Australia / New Zealand Challenge – both involving nominated national teams which included a number of Tasmanians.

Best result in the schools challenge was a second by Brodie Nankervis in the Senior Boys class.

In the Australia/New Zealand challenge events Tasmanians in Australian teams with best results were

  • Jarrah Day (1st Long Distance)
  • Ashley Nankervis (3rd Middle Distance, 3rd Long Distance))
  • Brodie Nankervis (3rd Middle Distance, 1st Sprint)
  • Paul Pacque (2nd Middle Distance, 2nd Sprint)
  • Bert Elson (2nd Middle Distance, 2nd Long Distance)
